PET (Partners in Empathy Training) Humane Education Program

The core elements of SAVE's Humane Education Program are:

  • A reverence for life and compassion for all living things
  • The rejection of cruelty, violence and exploitation

Through the program children learn about the basics of humane animal care, companion animal behavior and communication, overcoming fears of animals and staying safe around animals. The PET Program of thematic humane education lessons is offered both fall and spring semesters for pre-school and primary school grade classes in schools and community organizations. The PET program is currently offered at the Greater Trenton Area YWCA, Princeton YWCA, Slackwood Elementary School, Lawrence Neighborhood Service Center, Lawrence Day Care and the Rock Brook School.

SAVE is also pleased to offer one-time presentations about our organization and humane education in general to schools and community organizations.

Please contact Kathleen Brown at humaneed@SaveHomelessAnimals.org or (609) 924-3802 ext. 205 if you would like SAVE to visit your school or organization.

PET Testimonials

"The PET Humane Education Program should be duplicated a hundred times, as the impact it has had on the children at our center has been a true benefit."

Carlos Hendricks, Executive Director, Lawrence Neighborhood
Service Center

"Our children and teachers look forward to your visits ... the children speak and write about their new animal friends and their experiences with them ... It is truly touching to see and hear the wonderful empathic responses your lessons evoke ... Thank you for bringing this character enriching experience to our children!"
